Water is a precious natural resource, especially in areas severely hit by drought. Lack of water leads to non-remunerative farming. Ensuring its availability and proper use, is crucial to reforming the farming sector.

NAAM has undertaken the enormous task of water conservation across Maharashtra, by finding long-term remedies to mitigate the effects of drought. Using heavy machinery, we have carried out excavation and widening of existing rivers and nalas to improve their storage capacities. This indirectly increases the water levels underground, as well as those of wells in the commanding area.

These initiatives have also increased the capacity of the rivers and percolation, thereby recharging the groundwater table. The surrounding villages now have sufficient water for irrigation, throughout the year.

Between 2015 and 2025, Naam Foundation undertook extensive water conservation efforts that led to the restoration of 2,246 water sources and rejuvenation of 178 rivers. Additionally, deepening and widening work was carried out on 515 streams and nalas, along with the restoration of 769 percolation tanks through desilting and structural repair. Silt removal operations were completed in 26 dams. In 53 villages, contour trenching activities (CCT and Deep CCT) spanned 467 kilometers. Overall excavation volume reached over 5.85 crore cubic meters, resulting in water storage capacity of 40,847 crore liters (equivalent to 14.43 TMC). These initiatives directly benefited more than 77.17 lakh farmers and brought 33.69 lakh hectares of land under irrigation.
