Trench Excavation

CCT Length
A CCT (Continuous Contour Trench) is the most suitable technique for low rainfall, hilly or undulating terrain areas. Contour trenches are ditches dug along a hillside, which follow the contour of the hill and run perpendicular to the flow of water. The soil excavated from the ditch is used to form a berm on the downhill edge of the ditch. The berm is planted with permanent vegetation (native grass, legumes, etc.) to stabilise the soil and trap any sediment that would overflow from the trenches; thereby preserving fertile soil from being washed away.
