Katraj and Jamkhed regions are drought-prone with irregular and inconsistent rainfall. Due to drought and unawareness regarding water management, the residents of the village have to depend on external water supplies like tankers for personal and domestic use. For irrigation, the dependency on borewells and dug wells has resulted in a decline in the groundwater table of the river which further led to the decline of the streamflow and management of water bodies.

After the assessment, it was observed that during heavy rainfall in the region, the river overflows its banks. This happens due to the reduced depth and percolation capacity of the river. One yield of the black gram takes 70-90 days to produce. During floods approx. 2-3 months of livelihood of citizens depending on the agriculture is affected.

To mitigate the drought and flood situation in the villages, it was important to rejuvenate water bodies.  Karjat Jamkhed Integrated Development Foundation in collaboration with NAAM Foundation initiated Deep CCT and Nala  Desilting projects in Kombhali of Karjat and Nala Bunding project in Nahuli of Jamkhed.  NAAM Foundation deployed machines – PC210 and Tata Hitachi 210  in the Kombhali and the Nahuli villages respectively.
